Rakin Bacon

Meet Cornsquealius, the star of this Rakin’ Bacon review. He’s a dapper-looking piggy bank in a rather fetching top hat and bow tie. And he’s on hand to dole out rewards of up to 250,000 credits.

You’ll need to feed him gold coins first, which are the wild symbols in this game. You can also collect pots of gold to trigger up to 15 free spins, on reel grids of varying sizes.

Rakin’ Bacon Details, RTP and Volatility

The RTP of Rakin’ Bacon is a perfectly reasonable 95.89%. Action takes place on a 5×3 grid, though you’ll have the option to expand this during the bonus feature. In the base game, there are 243 ways to win.

A highly-volatile slot , there’s a maximum potential win per spin of 250,000 credits, or 2,500x your bet. Wager sizes range from $0.88 to $88, a nod to the significance of the lucky number 8 in Asian cultures.

Theme & Graphics in Rakin’ Bacon

This AGS title, released in 2016, was the first in a series of popular land-based slots. They’re now available to play at online casinos too.

The slot is dripping with gold, which makes sense given the general theme of wealth. The number 8 features prominently, too, as it does in many slots aimed at Asian markets.

Considering the game’s age, and the fact that it was originally designed for land-based slot cabinets, the graphics aren’t too bad. The animated Cornsquealius, who sits to the left of the reels, slowly fattens up as you feed him. This fun little touch adds to the entertainment, especially when he’s about to burst.

Rakin’ Bacon Slot Features

Now it’s time for the key element of our Rakin’ Bacon review, where we assess the features and mechanics of this slot.

Regular Symbols

There are eleven regular symbols, four of which are playing card ranks A, K, Q and J. These pay the same rewards of 5, 10 and 50 credits for three, four and five on a payline.

The mid-tier symbols are a purple bow tie and top hat, as worn by Cornsquealius, plus a stack of gold coins. Rewards of 100 credits await you for landing five coin stacks, with 60 paid for five hats or bow ties.

Next are the higher-paying symbols, which are a wad of dollar bills, a diamond ring, gold bars and Cornsquealius himself. Five of each type pays 250, 400, 500 and 1,000 credits.

Wilds

The wild is a gold coin bearing the face of Cornsquealius. It can only appear on reels two, three and four, but substitutes for regular symbols to form wins.

Whenever a wild coin appears, it is placed inside Cornsquealius the piggy bank. Any coin could randomly trigger the Jackpot Pick bonus.

Bonus Symbol

A pot of gold coins is the game’s bonus symbol, which is the key to unlocking the free spins feature. In addition, should three, four or five appear on the reels, you’ll be paid 440, 880 and 4,400 credits.

PowerXStream

This is simply the name AGS gives to its paying mechanism. There are no traditional paylines here. Instead, you’ll need to line symbols up on consecutive reels, from left to right.

Jackpot Pick

Rakin’ Bacon features four different jackpots. However, unlike progressive jackpot slots, the prize pools in this game do not grow with time. They’re fixed, the size of each determined by your chosen bet size.

When playing on the highest coin denomination, the pools are as follows:

  • Grand: 100,000 credits
  • Major: 8,000
  • Minor: 250
  • Mini: 100

Free Spins

Collect three or more scatters to trigger free spins. At this point, you’ll have a choice from three possible options.

  • 15 free spins. Play 15 spins on the standard 5×3 Rakin’ Bacon slot grid.
  • 10 free spins. Just 10 spins, but an extra row of symbols is added. The new 5×4 grid offers 1,204 ways to win, instead of 243.
  • 5 free spins. A 5×5 reel grid with an impressive 3,125 ways to win. However, you’ll only receive five spins.

How to Play Rakin’ Bacon Online

At first glance, this game looks more complicated than it is. Ultimately, it’s a regular 5×3 slot where the aim is to match at least three symbols of the same type to win a prize.

Instead of the usual paylines seen in most real money slots, you just need to drop symbols onto adjacent reels.

Choose how much to wager using the buttons in the bottom-left corner, plus your bet denomination to the right. Tap the circular arrow to spin.

Collecting wilds can cause the piggy bank to burst, offering a chance at winning the jackpot. Scatter symbols unlock free spins, another lucrative source of wins.

Rakin’ Bacon Review – Our Final Verdict

A pet hate of mine with older slots is the need to select credits, then a separate bet denomination. This needlessly clunky method is a relic of days gone by. But it’s made extra complex in this game, by the use of unusual predetermined values.

The developer is desperately trying to shoehorn in the number 8, which is deemed lucky by certain cultures. Hence the bet sizes are all multiples of 88. I hate it, honestly. I like to spin in neat round numbers.

Once you get past that, it’s a solid but unspectacular slot. I do like the flexibility offered by the free spins feature, but I found it very hard to unlock. The jackpot game, however, comes around often, providing a nice balance.

With a solid RTP and enough features to keep you entertained, Rakin’ Bacon is definitely worth your time. Especially if you’re a fan of classic land-based casino games.
