Beach Invaders is a highly-volatile, alien-themed slot by NetEnt, first released in August 2023. 

Apart from its theme, nothing is especially other-worldly about the game, with its 5×4 reel grid and quite standard RTP of 96.09%. Watch out, though, as some online casinos offer a lower rate of 94.09%.

Each spin costs between $0.10 and $20. Land three or more symbols along any of its 30 paylines to earn wins, which are capped at 20,847x your stake.

Theme & Graphics in Beach Invaders

It’s the perfect weather for an alien beach party, which is the theme of NetEnt’s Beach Invaders slot. Clear blue skies and sea, along with some rocks and trees, form the backdrop of the translucent 5×4 grid. 

Look closely as you spin, as you’ll see the alien spaceship drop by from time to time. You’ll also notice that the lower-value card icons feature alien appendages.

Regular Symbols

Nine symbols are available to form wins on the 30 fixed paylines. The four higher-value symbols are creepy-looking cocktails with alien body parts. Three, four or five of these on a payline will award prizes of up to 2.5x, 10x and 50x.

Green playing card icons from 10 to A are the slot’s lower-paying symbols. Drop between three and five of these on a payline to earn from 0.2x up to a maximum of 10x.

Expanding Wilds

The wild symbol in Beach Invaders is a green, frog-like alien waiter. Every time one of these lands, it expands to cover the entire reel and is locked into place. 

Wilds can substitute for any of the regular symbols, but they also offer prizes of their own. They return the same as the highest-paying symbol, which means that three, four and five wilds pay 2.5x, 10x and 50x.

Scatters

It’s hard to miss the scatter, which is simply the word “Free Spins” written across an alien spaceship. Landing three simultaneously activates free spins, which we’ll soon discuss in detail in this Beach Invaders review.

Locked Wild Progress Bar

During the base game, you’ll see a progress bar in the top-left corner of the grid that shows four milestones. Each step indicates the number of spins that a locked wild must remain in place. 

To fill the bar, you must collect ice cubes, which are randomly attached to regular symbols. Once this happens, an expanded wild is guaranteed to land on the next spin. This wild will also remain locked for four spins, after which the progress bar will be reset.

Free Spins

Landing three scatters will trigger ten free spins, which come with a Shifting Wild and Increasing Multiplier in play. 

Like the base game, expanded wilds may randomly land. However, each wild shifts one position to the left on the next spin, reducing its size by one tile. This continues until it reaches the regular symbol size.

As the wild shifts, it activates a multiplier that increases by x1 after each shift. This multiplier applies to every win in which the wild is involved. If there is more than one wild multiplier, the values are summed.

If a new wild lands where an expanding wild already appears, it will re-expand to cover the entire reel. However, the current multiplier value will be maintained.

How to Play Beach Invaders Online

Beach Invaders hardly differs from many other real money slots in its gameplay. Use the plus and minus symbols in the bottom-left corner to enter a bet size, then spin using the green button in the center. 

You can also activate turbo spins by clicking the speedometer symbols to the left of this spin button. The option to the right lets you configure up to 2,000 automatic spins.

Creating a win requires between three and five matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting with the leftmost. These must also land on any of the slot’s 30 fixed paylines.

Beach Invaders Review – Our Final Verdict

We’ve seen beach-themed slots before, as well as games starring aliens, but I can’t honestly recall one where the two combine. The fun theme was certainly a positive start for Beach Invaders, alongside the sleek animation and colorful graphics.

It’s also an entertaining slot, with versatile wilds that can move around and expand to cover the whole reel. Not to mention the multipliers, which help you along the way to a pretty generous maximum potential win of 20,847x.

One downside, though, is the fairly restrictive betting limits, which won’t appeal to bigger-staking players. What’s more, the RTP of 96.09% is quite average, but most casinos seem to use a lower-paying version of just 94.09%.

Still, if you can find the more rewarding version of the Beach Invaders slot, it’s certainly worth a spin or two of anyone’s time.
