Regular Symbols

There are five playing card icons which serve as the game’s lower-paying symbols. The A, K, Q, J and 10 all pay identical returns of 10x the total bet for landing five on a payline. Smaller rewards of 0.5x and 2.5x are paid for matching three and four.

Four higher-paying regular symbols are based on the game’s angling theme. The tackle box and lure both return 50x for five on a payline, with 10x and 2x awarded when matching four and three symbols. 

Next is the fishing rod, offering prizes of up to 100x, followed by the boat, which is the most-rewarding of all. Not only does this return 200x when you collect five on a payline, but you only need two of them to secure a prize. 

Money Symbol

Fish symbols landing on the reels contain monetary values. These are multiples of your current bet, which range from 2x through to a possible 4,000x. 

Landing three or four of these money symbols pays 1x and 5x. However, if you match five on a payline, you’ll be paid the total monetary amount. These symbols also play a key role in the free spins feature described later in our Bigger Bass Bonanza review.

Wilds

A photograph of the bearded fisherman holding a sizable catch is the game’s wild. Like most slots, it substitutes for regular symbols to create wins. However, it also plays an additional role during the free spins round, as you’ll soon discover.

The scatter symbol is a depiction of a bass biting a hook and can appear on all five reels. Collect three, four or five of them to trigger ten, 15 and 20 free spins, respectively.

In addition, wilds are added to the progress meter above the reels. For every four collected, ten extra free spins are issued, along with an increased multiplier for money value symbols. The possible multiplier values are 2x, 3x and ultimately, 10x. After three retriggers, no extra spins can be awarded.

This slot certainly lives up to its name. Both the reel grid and the maximum potential payout per spin are bigger than the original slot in the series. But is it better? Well, in truth, it’s more or less the same.

Aside from one or two minor cosmetic changes, the aesthetics are essentially identical. So, unless you have a preference for the 5x4 layout over 5x3, or Hawaiian shirts over traditional attire, you likely won’t even notice a difference. Even the free spins bonus feature remains unchanged.

The key variation between the two slots lies in the volatility. Pragmatic Play rates Bigger Bass Bonanza 5/5 compared to the original’s score of 4/5. This leads to a bigger potential reward that’s almost double that of the first game. However, it also means you’ll wait longer to trigger the bonus, so it’s swings and roundabouts.
