The official RTP, for example, is quite unclear, with estimates ranging from 91.00% to 97.00%. Our educated guess is a figure of 94.00%, which tallies with older progressive jackpot slots from this developer.

We can, however, confirm that the volatility is well-balanced and fits nicely into the “medium” bracket. The maximum possible win is 50,000x the line bet, though two progressive jackpots can also be randomly paid. Finally, this is one for the casual player, with betting limits ranging from $0.01 to just $6.25 per spin.

Theme & Graphics in Regal Riches

The theme of Regal Riches is clearly a historical one. Set in England during the reign of Elizabeth I, the queen herself is the star of the show. She serves as the game’s wild, but other symbols on the reels are also fitting for the period. 

These include a lute-playing bard, a coat of arms, the queen’s carriage and a castle. There is little music during the game, but players are treated to a harpsichord and flute ditty throughout the bonus feature. At that point, the scene switches from a lush, green garden, to the inside of the palace.

Neither the graphics nor soundtrack can hold a candle to those found in new slots, but we have to allow for the game’s age. Compared to other decade-old slots, they’re certainly not terrible.

Regular Symbols

Ten regular symbols exist in Regal Riches, broken into two parts. The lower-paying icons, from lowest to highest, are a butterfly, a bunch of grapes, a gold hand mirror, a buisine trumpet and a beautiful necklace. 

All of these require three, four or five identical symbols on a payline to earn a prize. For the three lowest-paying symbols, you’ll earn 5x, 20x and 125x your line bet, respectively. The other two offer rewards of 10x, 40x and 150x.

Three higher-paying regular symbols provide returns for just two matches on a payline. The heraldic coat of arms pays 2x, 25x, 250x and 500x, while the bard offers 3x, 50x, 300x and 800x. A picturesque castle is the highest-paying ordinary symbol, worth 5x, 75x, 500x and 1,000x

Scatters

A fabulous fountain serves as the game’s scatter. Drop at least three onto the reels to start the Free Games feature. However, scatters also pay rewards of their own when matching between two and five. These are 2x, 3x, 10x and 50x your line bet.

Wilds

The queen acts as the wild and she can substitute for any symbol in the game, including scatters. However, she will only appear on the central reel. When landing, she gracefully fans herself, in a cute animation.

Free Games

At least three scatters triggers the Free Games bonus. Here, you’ll earn a random number of free spins between eight and 25. Spins play out just like the base game, except the scene switches to the palace interior. 

There is one crucial difference, however. Prizes have a multiplier value attached, which increases by 1x per spin. Anything won on your first Free Game, for example, retains its face value. But on subsequent spins, prizes are paid at 2x, 3x, 4x and so on, leading to a potential maximum multiplier of 25x.

Progressive Jackpots

Two different jackpots are up for grabs in RTG’s Regal Riches slot, both of which increase progressively. The Minor Jackpot pool is shown in the upper-left corner, while the larger Major Jackpot can be seen to the right.

It seems unfair to judge this classic Realtime Gaming slot through a modern lens, but it’s hard not to. Released back in 2013, the graphics and sounds are understandably dated. In addition, the RTP is on the low side compared to modern slots. However, Regal Riches still has a lot going for it. 

The quaint theme is charming enough, while the lack of complex features and mechanics makes it extremely easy to pick up and play. As a penny slot, beginners and low-stakes gamblers will return time and again. High rollers, though, not so much, thanks to a maximum bet of just $6.25 per spin. 

These betting restrictions do result in a high maximum potential win though, with 50,000x the line bet a real possibility. What’s more, two progressive jackpots seed at $250 and $1,000 each, sweetening the pot with an additional incentive.
